The C-QUADRAT ARTS Total Return Special has flexible investment guidelines. It can invest up to 70% in equity funds, up to 100% in bond or money market funds, up to 15% in market-neutral investments as well as up to 30% in indirect real estate investments. To implement the investment policy, the fund management makes particular use of a total return approach. To do so, the fund management uses technical trading software designed to follow medium-term trends which was developed by ARTS Asset Management. Funds showing upward movement in the short to medium term are given the highest weighting in the portfolio. As opposed to most traditionally managed fund-of-funds, the investment strategy of C-QUADRAT ARTS Total Return Special is not geared toward outperforming a benchmark, but much more to generating absolute growth in all market phases over the long term.
