Nvidia unveils new PC gaming chips
Nvidia Corp. CEO Jensen Huang presented a new GeForce RTX 50 series of gaming chips for desktop and laptop computers at the CES trade show in Las Vegas. The chips are powered by the Blackwell architecture used for the company's artificial intelligence processors. "Fusing AI-driven neural rendering and ray tracing, Blackwell is the most significant computer graphics innovation since we introduced programmable shading 25 years ago," Huang said.
The chips will roll out for desktop users starting January 30, while laptops with RTX 50 GPUs will be available starting in March. Nvidia promised that GeForce Blackwell comes to laptops with all the features of desktop models, including extending battery life by up to 40%. The company said the chips will boost frame rates, reduce latency by up to 75%, and power autonomous game characters, among other features.
