Blinken discusses Syria's future with Saudi FM
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. Blinken reaffirmed Washington's commitment to a peaceful political transition in Syria and an "inclusive, representative, and accountable government." He also stressed the importance of respect for the rights and freedoms of all Syrians, including minority groups, and noted Syria must not be "used as a base for terrorism."
The two diplomats also discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip and the efforts to reach a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, as well as the ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. Blinken noted the need to support Lebanon's "legitimate security institutions," such as the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Internal Security Forces.
