Blinken discusses Syria, Gaza with Egyptian FM

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken (pictured left) spoke on the phone with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty (right), the State Department said. The two discussed the efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Blinken and Abdelatty also spoke about the situation in Syria, with Blinken reiterating Washington's support for an "inclusive, Syrian-led and Syrian-owned peaceful political transition to a representative and accountable government." The outgoing US diplomat also thanked Egypt for its role in regional peace efforts and "underlined the importance of the US-Egypt strategic partnership."
